As the elections period approaches, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced various jobs and their application procedures.
Keep on reading as we take you through some of these jobs and the application procedures as stipulated in the constitution.
IEBC Jobs 2022
IEBC has officially announced several job positions, with three main categories; electoral officers, voter educators, and clerk jobs.
Each job has different qualifications, with specified payment. All successful applicants are eligible to start the training in preparation for this year’s elections, which are expected to be conducted on 9th August 2022.
Before applying for any of these jobs, the applicant must meet the following general qualifications for each post.
- Must be a Kenyan citizen and without belonging to any political party.
- Should be computer literate
- Must be available during the election process
- Must be of high integrity and abide by the constitution’s code of conduct
- Must reside in the Constituency/Ward/ County they apply for.
The specific qualifications for each post will be under the post being applied for.

Deputy County Returning Officer
There are 47 vacant posts, each county with a single returning officer who will report to the County Returning Officer regarding the electoral process at the county level.
However, each Deputy County Returning Officer must be willing to be engaged for at least 60 days to facilitate the entire process.
Qualifications
The applicants must:
- Hold a degree certificate from a recognized institution
- Have at least 6 years of work experience at the supervisory level in the public or private sector.
- Be of good character without political affiliation
- Be willing to work anywhere in the country
- Be willing to work for long hours with minimal supervision
Payment
Their wages will be Ksh 4,000/day with no additional allowances for each day worked, amounting to Ksh 240,000.

Deputy Constituency Returning Officer
There are 290 vacancies, equivalent to all the constituencies countrywide. The selected individual will report to and deputize to the Constituency Returning Officer and perform any other task delegated to them by the Constituency Returning Officer.
Similar to the Deputy County Returning Officer, the individual should be willing to be committed for 60 days.
Qualifications
The applicants must:
- Hold a degree or diploma certificate from a recognized institution
- Have at least 6 years of work experience at the supervisory level in the public or private sector.
- Demonstrate skills in people management
- Be willing to work anywhere in the country
- Work for long hours with minimal supervision
Payment
They will be paid Ksh 3,000/day each with no extra allowances and benefits, totaling Ksh 180,000.

Presiding Officer and the Deputy Presiding Officer
The Deputy Presiding Officer will perform all duties assigned by the Presiding Officer during elections, and both must be available during the election process.
Qualifications
Both applicants must:
- Hold a degree or diploma certificate from a recognized institution
- Have effective communication skills
- Have report writing skills
- Ability to manage people, sensitive data, and materials
- Have data computation skills
Payment
Presiding officers will receive Ksh 2,000 per day, while their deputies will get Ksh 1,00 per day.

Logistics officers
They will coordinate the transportation of ballot papers and ballot boxes to various polling stations. Logistics officers are also expected to identify gaps in the election materials and coordinate with the Registration Officers to address those gaps.
Qualifications
Each application must:
- Have a degree or diploma certificate from a recognized institution
- Be computer literate (Competent in MS Office)
- Have report writing skills
- Have report writing skills
- Have proven organizational skills
- Must be knowledgeable in logistics, distribution and retrieval of
materials;
- Be conversant with the Geography, infrastructure and terrain of
the Constituency/Ward he/she applies to work in
Payment
Every logistics officer will receive Ksh 1,500 per day.

Support Electoral Trainers (SET’s)
5827 positions are reserved for SET’s countrywide.
Qualifications
Applicants must
- Have a degree of social science or diploma certificate from a recognized institution
- Proven and demonstrated writing skills
- Have participated in adult training programs
- Have the ability to manage people
Payment
Wages of Ksh 2,000 per day

IEBC clerk jobs
General qualifications for all positions still apply to clerk jobs, along with the specific qualifications as listed below in each category.

ICT Clerks
Qualifications
The applicants should:
- Hold a diploma in ICT, IT or a related field
- Have a minimum of 2 years of experience in ICT industrial environment
- Hands on skills in computer hardware, network and software diagnostics
- Have effective communication and report writing skills
- An ICT certification is an added advantage
Payment
Successful applicants will get Ksh 1,500 per day

Polling/Counting clerks
Qualifications
Each applicant should
- Have a minimum of C- in KCSE
- Must be available during the entire period of elections
Payment
Each successful applicant will get Ksh 1,000 per day
