How to verify iebc registration

IEBC suspended the registration of new voters as well as the change of registration of voters both in Kenya and diaspora until March 13, 2023, and launched the electronic voter verification just three months before the 9th August polls.

All voters have between 4th May and 2nd June to check their detail in the voters’ roll. There are two main ways in which you can verify your voter registration details:

  1. Verify Online/iebc voter verification portal

To verify your registration details online all you require is your ID or Passport number and internet connection. You can do it with your phone. To successfully carry out the process carry out the basic steps below:

  1. Visit the voter verification official website portal: https://verify.iebc.or.ke
  2. Key in your ID number and click the verify button
  3. You will receive a message that indicates “Voter found” together with your voter registration details.

Verify IEBC Registration

The details loaded include:

  • The ID/ Passport Number of the voter
  • Gender
  • Birth Date
  • Polling Station of the voter
  • Polling Station Code of the voter
  • County of the voter
  • Constituency of the voter
  • Ward of the voter

2. Verify by SMS

This comes in handy when the verification via the website is not working or you are getting errors. To verify using this method, send an SMS text of your ID or Passport number, either of which you used to register as a voter to the number 70000. You will receive a message with your registration details.

However, it is important to note that this service will cost you Ksh.10 across the Safaricom, Airtel, or Telkom networks.

How to register as a voter with IEBC.

To become an eligible Kenyan voter follow the simple guideline below:

Requirements:

  • One must be 18 years of age and above.
  • Must be in the possession of an original identification document that is either a National ID or a passport.
  • Must be of sound mind
  • Not found guilty by an election court or reported to be guilty of any election crimes during the preceding five years.

The registration process:

  1. All you have to do is present yourself to the designated registration center during working hours carrying your original identification documents.
  2. The Registering officer will key in your details to the system with relevance to the identification document and also ask you for some registration-related questions.
  3. Your facial Identity will be verified as the final process.
  4. You will be issued a voter’s card which you will present on the elections day to vote.

However, it is important to note that every Kenyan citizen is eligible to register as a voter only once. Registering more than once is a crime and you face some pretty serious charges and penalties.

  • Presents you with an opportunity to vote and elect the leaders of your choice
  • Gives you the right to nominate candidates for elections.
  • You get a right to nominate the candidates of your choice for elections.
  • Allows you to vie for any elective position
