How to Unlock KPLC Token Meter, KPLC Tamper Code

How to Unlock KPLC Token Meter

Pre-paid KPLC Token Meter Tamper Code is a very common failure to occur on electricity meter when it automatically detects an unauthorized interference. The most possible way to detect a tamper is when;

  • It is unable to dispense power/supply/current to one’s premises.
  • If the seal has been removed from the meter
  • When the bottom cover is loose
  • If there is an additional wiring connection to and from the meter that can be seen.

KPLC Tamper Code

  • Have the C.I.U (TOKEN METER) connected to the wall socket and switched on.
  • Press 59698686 followed by meter number, then press ok.
  • Once it accepts press 1275 4194 1448 6450 5970 then ok
  • Once it also accepts key in the meter number

Tampering with meters is both unlawful and extremely dangerous due to the potential of electrical injury. A manipulated meter does not perform as it should

A well-functioning meter is integral to the recovery of consumption costs and the avoidance of the ramifications of the electricity theft.

If a landlord discovers that a prepaid meter has in fact been tampered with, at their discretion, they can;

  • Confront the tenant with proof of theft.
  • If the period of tampering is known attempt to recover the stolen funds
  • Open a case of theft
  • Evict the tenant if the issue persists.

How does tampering with a KPLC Token Meter work?

There are multiple ways one can tamper with the electricity meter and some of them include;

  • Turning the watt-hour meter upside down (prior to digitalization this would make the meter turn backwards)
  • Replacing the meter with items such as copper wires or knives or drilling a hole in the meter and inserting something to stop the disc at night and removing the object in the morning so that no one would suspect electricity theft.
  • Extreme measures of electricity theft include breaking the meter itself.
  • Replacing your meter with someone else’s.

Bypassing occurs in a variety of ways.

This is also known as Electricity theft, bypassing a meter doesn’t mean free electricity, it is still a cost that needs to be recovered and will be passed on to those already paying their fair share including those that can least afford it.

Bypassing an electricity meter is illegal whether provided by government utility or by private service provider.

If an individual has bypassed their meter completely, they won’t be charged or any electricity usage at all. Once the meter has been tampered with, the individual with those around him are at risk from several dangers, some of which can result in severe injuries or extreme cases, fatalities.

Bypassing can occur in a variety of ways, including

  • The most common way is putting a jumper in the meter terminal such that connection is bypassed and the energy consumption is not registered.
  • Another type is the removal of external potential copper on the terminal. – This event can be compared with power failure records from the substation data. The event date and time logging are enough to identify abnormal power failures and their duration.
  • Double feeding the meter; this is where additional feeding is connected directly to the line so that the consumption for additional feeding is not registered.
  • Meter manipulation, unlike electromechanical meters where techniques like manipulating the disc brakes, or slowing them so that the meter records less consumptions are used, these techniques cannot be used on an electronic meter.
  • External Tampers: This can include destroying the meter case, injecting chemicals into it, or even burning the meter, all of which change the electrical properties of the components, resulting in less or no energy consumption.
  • High Voltage/ frequency tamper; a meter can be tampered with by an electrostatic device that generates spikes or voltages in the range of 35Kv. this may introduce errors in consumption recordings or may even damage the meter.

It is always best to prevent a problem rather than fix it after it has occurred. Ways of preventing meter tampering/ solutions for avoiding tampering include;

  • Tampering seals -nowadays there are specially designed seals available for use on electric and utility meters. These seals should be used on meters especially during installation to prevent unauthorized access.

It is recommended that electric meters should be provided with front side seals so that they are readily visible to a meter reader or inspector

  • Code protection– it is important to authenticate firmware patches and reject unauthorized or tampered software.
  • Having magnet sensors to detect the presence of abnormal magnetic fields and provide evidence by logging it as a tamper.
  • Increase the gap between the sensors and magnet, or by shielding the sensors and thus suppressing the effect of the magnetic field.
  • Other board design techniques like using ferrite beads, capacitor line filters and physically large SMD resisters to help protect the meter electronics from various forms of electromagnetic disturbance.
  • Anti – tamper switches can be placed on the casing of the meter to trigger and tamper when the casing is opened.
  • By installation of electronic energy meters because they can detect tampering conditions and assure proper billing, unlike electrochemical meters.
