This is a type of meter with a customer interface unit that has a screen resembling that of a mobile phone which allows customers to manage their power consumption the same way they manage credit units for their mobile phones.

In this case a customer purchases electricity token and credit units to his meter to his meter`s customer interface unit screen. As a customer uses electricity, his/her credit balance is reduced each day until the units are exhausted prompting the customer to top up.

Benefits of prepaid meter

  • Buying tokens is as easy as buying a pie.
  • In case of a disconnection, you can refill the service without paying an additional deposit.
  • It enables you to manage your power consumption.

This is a tariff that allows you to use now and pay later. The tariff on sign up allows you to set a preferred monthly credit limit with a minimum allowable limit of 1000. It is open to all safaricom pre-pay customers with the exception of corporate accounts.

In postpaid users are provided with services by cellular providers and are then asked to pay the bill at the end of the billing cycle.

Benefits of postpaid

  • You need to pay the bill after you have used the service
  • With postpaid you don’t need to pay anything upfront, you get a monthly bill after you use telecom connection.
