Kenya Power encourages its customers to pay for tokens via M-Pesa with the emergence of fraudsters who pretend to be KPLC officials.
Kenya Power avails two PayBill numbers for both prepaid customers and PostPaid customers namely; 888880 for Prepaid Customers and 888880 for PostPaid Customers
KPLC Prepaid PayBill Number
The PayBill Number for KPLC Prepaid is 888 880
KPLC PostPaid PayBill Number
The PayBill Number for KPLC PostPaid is 888 888
How to buy tokens via M-Pesa for PrePaid Customers
- Go to your M-Pesa menu and select Lipa na M-Pesa
- Select pay Bill and enter KPLC business number as 888880
- Enter KPLC account number (enter your KPLC prepaid meter number e.g., 0200 xxx xxx x) and click ok
- Enter the amount of money which you intend to spend between the range Ksh 20 to Ksh 35,000
- Enter your M-Pesa pin
- Confirm whether the details you have entered are correct then click ok
- KPLC will generate a new token valid for your meter and send you a notification via SMS
How to buy tokens via M-Pesa for PostPaid Customers
- Go to your M-Pesa menu and select Lipa na M-Pesa
- Select Pay Bill and enter KPLC business number as 888 888
- Enter your KPLC account number
- Enter the amount of money which you would like to spend (Your Monthly Bill Amount)
- Enter your M-Pesa pin and press ok initiate for the transaction
- Confirm whether the details you have entered are correct then click ok and wait for a confirmation message
How to buy tokens via EQUITEL
- Select Eazzy pay from your Equitel menu
- Enter pay bill from Eazzy pay – choose the bank account number to pay from
- Enter your KPLC prepaid meter number
- Enter amount
- Enter Equitel pin
- A confirmation text will be received via sms
N/B all payments are posted in one’s electricity account on the same day.

- Entre the first part of your account number in the subject field
- Send the blank email message to
- You will receive an automatic reply with your account balance details and payments due to date.
How to self-read Kenya Power and lighting company meter
- Dial *977# and select option 2
- Postpaid services
- Then 4 self-reading and add your account number.
- If the reading period is closed, you will be advised when to submit your readings.
How to Buy KPLC tokens online
Pesa Pal is an alternative Kenyan company established to process online payments
You can buy KPLC tokens online via the Pesa Pal bill number (220220) by following the steps outlined below:
For prepaid customers follow these steps
- Go to sim toolkit then M-Pesa
- Select Pay Bill
- Then enter the business number as 220220
- Then enter your account number in this format PAWANNNNNNNNNNNN where NNNNNNNNNN is your 11-digit meter number
- Then enter the amount of money you wish to spend
- Enter M-pesa pin and press send
NOTE: Do not forget the word PAWA
After the steps above you will receive a notification from pesa pal with two notifications; the first one will be sent to confirm your payment and the second with token number and units
For PostPaid customers follow the steps outlined below
- On your sim tool kit select M-Pesa
- Enter business number as 220220
- next enter account number in the format KPLCXXXXXXXX-XX where XXXXXXXXX-XX is your KPLC meter number
- enter the amount you wish to spend
- enter your M-Pesa pin to complete the transaction
NOTE: do not forget to indicate the word KPLC.
